About Us

Artis - about us

Artis was founded in 1983 and acquired by Marposs in 2008. Artis is now a brand managed by MARPOSS Monitoring Solutions GmbH and marketed through the Marposs worldwide network.

The Artis systems take over the task of analyzing, safeguarding and optimizing production processes. With 30 years of experience in process monitoring, Artis today is the world’s biggest supplier of monitoring systems and adaptive control solutions for metal cutting machine tools.

Over 30,000 systems are currently in use worldwide, primarily in the automotive and aviation industries, and are used in the manufacture of single parts as well as mass production. Around 1,200 new systems are installed world-wide every year. Artis works closely together with the manufacturers on machine conception, and integration into the standard control types.

Many machine manufacturers and end-users are very convinced of the benefits of our systems and have specified them as a standard. In the fields of Industry 4.0 various requirements can be met by our solutions.

Artis engineers and application technicians boast many years of interdisciplinary experience in all of the most important processing aspects involved in metal cutting, as well as NC, PLC, drives, bus systems, tools, clamping tools, machine structures, machine components, workpiece materials, consumables, emulsions and cooling lubricants. The latest technologies in hardware and software form the basis for the development and production of our own strain gage and piezoelectric sensors.

In 2008, Artis joined the Marposs Group, which is the leading group of companies for production measurement technology. The products from Marposs companies play a crucial role along the whole production chain in optimizing quality and rationalizing production processes. Marposs is always in your vicinity world-wide with its global distribution and service network in 80 countries with over 3,500 employees. Award

At the 2019 Ford Global Manufacturing Technical Excellence Awards, the Transmission Gear Hobbing Process Monitoring project featuring Artis process monitoring technologies, was named a top four finalist out of 300 entries.

The combined Marposs and Ford Worldwide PTME (Powertrain Manufacturing Engineering) team implemented tool monitoring technology to determine tool wear instead of the historical practice of piece-count tool replacement practices. The new monitoring system has helped achieve a 30 – 80% improvement in tool life, as well as helping reduce hidden factory costs due to lost production, off-standard sorting, and scrap. The technology is now a Ford standard, captured in the Hob standard scope of work and bill of process for transmission gearing powertrain worldwide.
